Chimney flues 'have the most maintenance issues'

Repairs to flue liners for woodburners and gas fires are some of the most common jobs professionals will be called out to fix.

According to Fireplace Village, chimney flues are the areas which require the most maintenance, as it is the most important element of the whole structure.

"When the flue is cracked, split or damaged in any way, the whole system will break down. It can also become blocked with nests and other debris," the firm stated.

The company went on to add that homeowners should not use a fire without a properly working chimney flue under any circumstances, as this is likely to cause serious damage.

Another issue professionals should make homeowners aware of is the build up of creosote, which needs to be addressed by an expert.

According to US Inspect, chimney flues must always be open when a fire is lit, while replacing furnace filters every three months is also recommended.
