Chimney repair professionals may wish to point out to customers that applying creosote removal products can help maintain the flue liner for their woodburner.
That is according to the Ask the Chimney Sweep blog, which said that creosote builds up over time and if it is left untreated can lead to corrosion on the flue liner.
Tradesmen should tell customers that if they apply creosote removal products a month or so before they call in a chimney sweep, the clean up operation will be much easier.
According to the source, it is recommended that creosote be treated if the build up has exceeded an eighth of an inch in depth.
It may also be worth highlighting to domestic customers that the summer time would be the best period in which to call in the services of a chimney sweep.
The Chimney Safety Institute of America stated that this is because few people give much thought to their chimney during the warmer times of year, meaning professionals are not inundated with work and can tend to any problems swiftly.
