Chimney enthusiasts are hoping to have a museum of chimney pots established in Stoke-on-Trent within the next year.

The Sentinel reports that members of the Chimney Pot Preservation and Protection Society believe the move will increase the number of visitors to the area and provide an educational experience for children.

Museum curator Lance Bates, who has a personal collection of 2,500 chimney pots, told the newspaper that while securing funding has been a major hurdle, the group is optimistic the £10,000 target will be reached.

"We're confident of raising the money ourselves. We've got an exhibition planned for Christmas and we're looking at opening the museum in early spring," he stated.

Mr Bates added that the idea is to have a rotating display of chimney pots, with 800 of the 2,500 on show at one time.

English Heritage believes the Chimney Pot Preservation and Protection Society helps to highlight "an overlooked aspect of our architectural past", according to the organisation.
