Chimney repair specialists should make sure those living in old properties are aware of the importance of having their chimney serviced on a regular basis.
Katherine Frankel, writing for the HarrisonPatch, said that while living in a historic house comes with many positives, there are a few essential maintenance tasks which buyers must bear in mind.
One area which will need attention is the chimney and certain parts of it in particular which are susceptible to wear and tear.
"Stucco exterior walls will need patching and spot waterproofing every two years. Chimneys, including chimney caps, require regular cleaning for fire protection and older furnaces will need regular servicing," Ms Frankel said.
