EDF Energy has declared progress in the construction of Hinkley Point C, with national policy decisions allowing major steps to be taken in the nuclear power station's development.

West Somerset District Council has given its permission for work to commence in order to prepare the site. These preparatory duties will lead to the creation of up to 500 jobs, with the majority of these set to be taken up by local residents.

EDF Energy chief executive Vincent de Rivaz said: "July has been a major month for nuclear new build. As a result of the steps taken by Parliament and the local authority, EDF Energy is able to take immediate action to move the project forward significantly."

Recently, the Birmingham Post reported that electrical services contractor JT Hawkes has fitted out a solar power plant in Swindon.

The company designed, installed and commissioned the site within six weeks.
