RWE has confirmed that its Claus C and Moerdijk 2 power plants have now had their gas turbine and associated flue accessories placed into operation for the first time.
After starting up the gas turbines in the plants, flue gases are released and the heat from these are used to convert water into steam, powering the steam turbine. Both the gas and steam turbines create electricity through a generator, according to the Engineer.
Project manager Ray Bisley told the website: "Earlier this year we had already conducted a small pre-test with a 'First Ignition', where the gas turbine was briefly put into operation."
Mr Bisley continued by saying that the remaining part of the task has now been finished, meaning gas turbines can now undergo protracted operation.
Last week, the Forestry Commission revealed a new Woodland Carbon Code, which is hoped will attract significant investment in British tree planting projects while tackling carbon emissions.
