The energy performance of appliances such as flue accessories is set to become more important to tenants, one group has asserted.
This is because they are likely to consider whether they are renting an inefficient property in the coming years due to the prospect of higher fuel bills, according to the Residential Landlords Association (RLA).
Richard Jones, policy director at the RLA, said: "At the moment, I don't think tenants necessarily distinguish between properties that are energy efficient and those that are not."
Mr Jones continued by saying that people, including landlords, are now becoming more eco-sensitive about homes.
He added that the UK's older housing stock is generally pretty inefficient in regards to energy.
His remarks follow a study from the Association of Residential Letting Agents last month, which found that 35 per cent of British landlords are unaware of the energy performance of their homes.
