Installers of flue accessories in the construction industry are still feeling the effects of government cutbacks, one organisation has noted.
This is particularly due to cutbacks in public expenditure and falls in the number of new schools and hospitals, while private house building has also declined, according to the Federation of Master Builders (FMB).
Brian Berry, director of external affairs at the FMB, said: "Last year we only built just over 100,000 new homes compared to a target of over 240,000 and it looks as though that figure will be as bad, if not worse, this year as it was last year."
Mr Berry added that the figures reflect that some people simply cannot afford to buy a home.
Last month, Glenigan found that the number of construction projects placed on hold has risen by 16 per cent over the three months to August when compared with the same period in 2010.
