Peterborough landlords could be the indirect cause of someone's death if they do not ensure that their flue accessories comply with new gas safety regulations.

Gas-electric franchisee David McVicker has warned that any property with boiler flues that cannot be inspected must be fitted with inspection hatches by December 2012. Reasons for boiler flues being unfit for inspection could be because they are hidden behind walls or ceilings, according to Peterborough Today.

Speaking to the newspaper, Mr McVicker said: "I’ve seen lots of inaccessible flues, including some totally concealed behind brickwork. The typical property is a two or three-storey town house where the boiler is on the ground floor and the flue routed through the roof."

Earlier this month, a representative from Build It advised that property insulation is vital in order for people to ensure their homes stay warm this winter.

Anna-Marie DeSouza from the publication advised that cavity wall insulation is especially useful.
