The government has announced new methods of supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

The energy and climate change secretary Ed Davey revealed that £35 million will be spent on the Energy Entrepreneurs Fund, while £3 million will be used to boost heat storage innovation.

Ahead of two days of international talks on the topic, Mr Davey said: "Part of the way that we are going to tackle climate change and get clean energy is through innovation, particularly with SMEs."

He explained that the £35 million fund will help innovators and entrepreneurs to demonstrate ways of utilising low carbon technologies.

Mr Davey also noted that the first wave of these systems will relate to energy efficiency in buildings, ranging from appliances such as heat pumps and ventilation systems.

It comes after Cambridge News reported that a number of new green houses will be showcased this spring as part of the Carbon Footprint's Open Eco Homes events.

These exhibitions will demonstrate the benefits of living in an energy efficient home.
