Craiglockhart Primary School Parent Council has criticised its local authority for the high energy bills seen at schools in the area.

The group has come forward with a number of power-saving suggestions, including investment in new boilers, after working with Edinburgh University students to conduct a survey of heating expenses, reports the Scotsman.

Gavin Corbett, a member of Craiglockhart’s parent council who is standing for the Green Party in the council elections, told the news provider: "Our analysis shows that we could save over £6000 a year on energy bills, equal to a 40 per cent reduction in our school alone – that is money saved for materials and other priorities."

Mr Corbett went on to say that there is currently "little happening" to make savings on heating at the school.

While Mr Corbett and other council members have expressed displeasure at the establishment's efforts to conserve cash, the Shropshire Star has reported that rural schools in Shropshire will soon run on boilers that are fuelled on pellets in order to benefit from cheaper heating.
