A new heat exchanger system has been installed in Wales, which could encourage businesses in the sector to examine how their flue accessories are operating.

The technology was fitted by the Dutch manufacturer Installatie Techniek Boxmeer (ITB) and has helped to save a substantial amount of energy in a Powys cottage farm, reports Heating and Ventilation News.

"I first came across heat exchangers when I was on a 7Y Services study tour to Holland early last year," the farm's owner Ed Davies told the website.

Mr Davies was the first farmer in Britain to utilise ITB's heat exchanger and has managed to reduce his heating costs significantly.

People looking to enhance their heating systems could also inspect their extractor fans on occasion.

The fans can be cleaned easily by homeowners, who will then be able to benefit from a more efficient heating system.
