A full-scale carbon capture plant in Norway is aiming to develop new technologies that will enable the more environmentally-friendly use of flue accessories.

Statoil and the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy are consulting on proposals for the site, which is based in Mongstad and hopes to improve knowledge of the dangers involved with amine technology, reports Oil Voice.

Kurt Georgsen, Statoil's head of the full-scale plant at Mongstad, told the news provider: "We regard carbon capture and storage as one of the most important environmental actions for the future, and the work at Mongstad is unique in this regard."

Many experts in the chimney industry will be observing developments at the plant, as any new innovations could alter the ways that flues are built.

The industry recently learned of a new hit-tech membrane device, which has been created by the energy services firm Kerma and was commissioned by the European Union.
