To repair cracks, Ask the Chimney Sweep has advised chimney owners to purchase accompanying ChimneySaver water repellent.
Using these items, cracks can be fixed by "applying Crack Magick vertically or horizontally with a stiff bristle," before using ChimneySaver water repellent on the affected area.
After conducting this procedure, homeowners should be able to see if a chimney crack is the key source of the problem, or if a more thorough examination is required.
As it is Chimney Fire Safety Week, there will not be a more appropriate time for residents to monitor their chimneys, with Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service warning homeowners to check that their chimneys are ready for use during the winter months.
