Nestle Purina is planning to add a new chimney to the flue accessories of its Wisbech plant in a move that would increase pet food output at the firm.
Fenland planners have been requested to allow the company to construct a chimney that is five-and-a-half feet wide and 50 feet tall. Nestle Purina believes that the expansion will provide real benefits to the site, upgrading the efficiency of their operations, reports Cambs Times24.
In a statement, the company said: "The scale of the proposed equipment is in line with the existing equipment located in the area and accords with the scale of recent developments on the Nestle site."
This week, a farmer from West Yorkshire announced that he is converting waste food into electricity in a new anaerobic digestion plant.
Neil Gemmel has built the plant on his farm near Emley, which generates enough electricity to power up to 650 homes.
