Homeowners should ensure that they buy the correct fire wood for appliances such as flue liners for woodburners.
People should also buy their fire wood a few months in advance of it being used, as it needs to be efficiently seasoned in order to deliver the best possible heating service, a chimney expert has informed CJFW.Fm.
Colin MacLeod told the radio station: "You should be getting your wood in the spring if you're planning to burn it that following winter. It needs to be split and bucked, split, stacked, air dried through the summer and then it's ready to go for the following winter."
People may also want to split a piece of wood in two, as it could indicate to them if the wood is properly seasoned.
Wood that contains a significant amount of moisture may not be suitable for burning, while dry wood can usually work effectively.
