Oxford City Council is planning to spend £665,000 to fit solar panels among flue accessories on five buildings in the area.

These photovoltaic panels are set to be installed on Cardinal House, Headley House, Knights House, Barton Leisure Centre and Ferry Leisure Centre. It is believed that after 25 years the move will have amounted to savings of £1.9 million, reports the Oxford Mail.

John Tanner, board member for a cleaner greener Oxford, told the newspaper: "We are hoping to get the full rebate from but even if we miss it and get the lower rate, it will still be worth doing."

Mr Turner noted that installing solar panels is an important part of creating a low-carbon future for Oxford.

News of these planned installations follows an article in the Berwick Advertiser, which revealed that proposals for 39 solar panels to be fitted at the Swan Centre for Leisure in Tweedmouth have been approved.
