When trying to move home, people should take a critical look at their house, one expert has noted.

This means that people may want to assess the condition of their flue accessories, while also looking at the aesthetics of rooms, with Miles Shipside from Rightmove.co.uk advising sellers to ensure their homes have bright colours.

Mr Shipside explained: "You might have lived in your own house and thoroughly enjoyed it for many years, but you therefore have a biased opinion of its benefits and you probably won't see some of the details that a buyer would see with a more critical eye."

He added that some people personalise their home too much.

These comments come after the Centre of Refurbishment Excellence was opened in December.

Acting as the UK's first green building skills hub, the development will help to create thousands of new jobs and prepare Britain for a low-carbon future.
