An unstable chimney stack caused buses to be diverted in Croydon yesterday morning (January 3rd), amid worries that flue accessories would fall onto the road.
The structure was on top of a house in Selhurst Road, with locals concerned that the high winds could cause it to blow away, potentially causing injury to pedestrians, according to YourLocalGuardian.co.uk.
A Croydon Council surveyor and the fire brigade were called to the house, while the route 75 bus was unable to call at stops A, B and F, following advice from Transport for London.
The authority has spoken to the owner of the chimney, warning him that the structure requires urgent attention.
Croydon's chimney scare follows a report by the Carrick Gazette, which detailed that pupils at Girvan Primary School and Girvan Nursery were forced home at lunchtime on December 20th because of a boiler breakdown, meaning that their Christmas holidays began early.
