Birmingham City Council has warned its heating contractor, Morrisons, that it must improve its performance.

The authority has given the organisation until the end of January to boost results, or their £2.5 million, five-year contract will end. It follows dissatisfaction among residents, who are waiting for boiler repairs, according to the Birmingham Mail.

In a letter, housing department director Bob Brown has warned the firm: "The contract will terminate unless you put forward an acceptable rectification programme or improvement plan within 20 working days."

Mr Brown went on to say that the business must "rectify the default" by the end of this month.

Elsewhere, Ofgem fined National Grid Gas and Northern Gas respective fines of £4.3 million and £900,000, after they both failed to respond to gas leaks on time last winter.

It justified National Grid Gas' inflated fee by saying that it owns four networks, compared to Northern Gas' one
