Pupils in Girvan were given an early start to their Christmas holidays, after a boiler breakdown meant that students were forced home at lunchtime on December 20th.
Girvan Primary School and Girvan Nursery were forced to send pupils home at lunchtime as a result of the flue accessories issue, highlighting the potential problems that can arise with heating appliances in winter, according to the Carrick Gazette.
A South Ayrshire Council representative told the newspaper: "Girvan Primary School was closed on the afternoon of Tuesday December 20 due to the school's heating system requiring some unexpected repairs."
In order for boiler repairs to be completed, the school then remained closed for a number of days.
Elsewhere, the Heating and Hotwater Industry Council (HHIC) has told the Bury Focus that residents should check the condition of their central heating system this winter.
HHIC noted that frozen condensate pipes can cause many issues, and may leave homeowners without heating.
