A fire at a thatched cottage in Somerset has displaced two residents from their home, after flue accessories were damaged by flames.

June Gregory and Clare Oldham saw their home destroyed by the fire in the region's Rodhuish area on Saturday night (January 29th), according to ThisIsTheWestCountry.co.uk.

Ms Gregory told the website: "We went out on Saturday night and came home about midnight. We threw some logs on the fire but had a funny feeling we shouldn't go to bed. Instead we fell asleep fully clothed downstairs – and that probably save our lives."

Meanwhile, EADT.co.uk has advised homeowners to be cautious with their heating appliances after numerous fires occurred in the East Anglia area.

Three chimney fires were reported in the area on January 31st, which were situated in Worlingworth, Buxhall and Ipswich.

These incidents have triggered a safety plea from fire fighters, who have told residents to ensure that their chimneys are clean.
