A scheme has been established in Washington, US to properly restore damaged chimneys and flue accessories.

New paintwork, roofs and chimneys will all be set up as part of the programme at Fort Worden State Park, according to the Pt Leader.

The website has reported that work is estimated for completion next month and Kate Burke, Washington state parks' manager of Fort Worden Area Parks, told the website that it is planning to continue the preservation work afterwards.

This news comes after the Herald Sun reported that children in New Zealand are being advised to inform Santa Claus of any chimney damage that is affecting their homes.

The Canterbury region of the country suffered a devastating earthquake in September and www.santashelper.co.nz is now allowing children to update the website with any news of chimney disrepair.

September's earthquake was measured at 7.1 magnitude, causing one in nine houses to require chimney repair work.
