An American chimney fire that started by just affecting flue accessories was eventually spread to other areas by strong winds.

The fire began at a property in Rockford, Illinois after its homeowner started a fire in his fireplace, according to the Rockford Register Star website.

All of the house's residents emerged from the incident without injury but the fire was exacerbated by winds in the area, which contributed towards the house suffering "heavy damage", according to a local fire chief who spoke to the website.

This news comes after Wcco.com reported that a fire in Minnesota caused severe damage to a residence.

The house fire in the Maple Grove region also originated from a fireplace, before the fire spread to other rooms and led to smoke circulating throughout the home.

In addition, the blaze caused damage to the home's chimney and led to the opening of a large hole in the side of the house, according to the website.
