The government's Green Deal may lead to more jobs being formed in the construction industry for people who specialise with flue accessories.
Currently, the sector's number of available jobs is negative, but the coalition's scheme creates a possible hope that employment levels will rise in the future, according to the Federation of Master Builders (FMB).
Brian Berry, director of external affairs at the FMB, said: "There is a skills gap [...] if we are going to deliver the Green Deal, but how we create that demand still hasn't been worked out.
Mr Berry hopes that next year will see a rise in the demand for retrofit skills, but only 11 per cent of the FMB's members anticipate a staffing increase in 2011.
It was reported last month by Wilkins Kennedy that the number of businesses going bankrupt in the construction sector rose by 19 per cent in 2011's first quarter.
