The rope that runs around the edge of a stove door or the viewing glass is an important part of a stoves’ performance. It creates a seal to prevent surplus air being pulled into the fire chamber which can cause an uncontrollable burn rate. As it is put under constant stress by opening and closing the door and from extreme temperatures, it will need replacing regularly.
Signs that indicate your rope seals may need to be replaced is when you experience smoke leaking out, if the fire becomes uncontrollable or if it's over-firing. Fortunately, rope seals are simple to replace and we supply everything you will need to do this.
A wide range of colours and diameters of fire door seal rope is available, all of which are suitable for use with wood burning and multi-fuel stoves. These are available to purchase by the metre or as a handy Rope and Adhesive Installation Pack.
High temperature adhesive suitable for replacing your rope seals can be purchased in a 50ml bottle. The rope glue is black to ensure limited visible impact. It can be used to secure fire rope either onto your stove or to vitreous flue pipe where additional packing out is required.
Installation guide
- Remove the door from the stove (if possible) and lay on a flat surface.
- Ensure that the groove you plan to place the glue and rope into is free from grease, dirt and any residual glue.
- Apply the adhesive to the groove (not the rope) and press the rope seal firmly into place without stretching or bunching it, you may need to trim it to fit. Please note that it’s best to butt together the two ends of the rope at the bottom of the door. Should you make a mistake simply pull out the rope seal and start again.
- Allow 20-30 minutes before re-attaching the door and shutting it, once ready fire up your appliance and the heat will help the glue to fully set.
