One Wilstead resident has seen his bills reduced after testing out the a new device, which shows people how they have been using electricity.

Engineered by AlertMe, the tool has helped Patrick Strauss to decrease his monthly costs by between £30 and £40, reports Bedford Today.

Speaking to the news provider, Mr Strauss said: "I first came across this business when I heard about their SmartMonitoring home security system, I really liked the idea of being able to check up on your home remotely."

Mr Strauss noted that he was attracted to the idea of being able to "keep tabs" on electricity use,

It comes after a new scheme was announced in Bristol, which will see one hundred residents in the area gain help to decrease their electricity and gas costs.

The 3e Houses initiative is funded by the European Commission and will see Bristol City Council partner with Toshiba Research Europe, Knowle West Media Centre and IP Performance.
