Renewable energy sources need to be financially sustainable for them to satisfy the needs of the public, prime minister David Cameron has underlined.
Mr Cameron praised Britain for the progress it has made in its "green energy revolution" and welcomed the investment of £350 million on energy projects, leading to the development of 800 jobs.
"Britain has gone from virtually no capacity for renewables, to seeing them provide almost 10 per cent of our total electricity needs last year," he stated.
Mr Cameron added that the UK has added more capacity to its renewable sector in the last two years than at any time in the last decade.
However, he warned that making such technology financially sustainable represents a "different challenge".
It comes after the Scottish energy minister Fergus Ewing claimed that the UK will require help from Scotland in order to reach its energy efficiency targets.
Mr Ewing emphasised that, individually, Scotland will contribute 30 per cent of Britain's aims for renewable electricity.
