Anti-nuclear campaigners residing near Shepperdine have spoken out against government plans to develop a new power plant with flue accessories near their homes.

Representatives of Shepperdine Against Nuclear Energy (SANE) have also stated they are a set of people who fully understand the consequences that can arise from having a "lack of vison" in British energy policy, according to the Gazette Series.

Reg Illingworth, chairman for SANE, told the news provider: "We pledge to peacefully halt new nuclear and to close down the existing old and risky sites, and we will overcome."

Horizon Nuclear Power is the company behind the plans for the Shepperdine power plant, which will be based near Oldbury.

SANE's campaign against the site comes after a new test centre was commissioned in the US that aims to trial carbon efficient flue accessories.

The new Post-Combustion Carbon Capture Centre may play a key role in advancing CO2 emissions across the world.
