A chimney malfunction emerging from flue accessories has been suspected as the potential source of a fire in the US state of Massachusetts.

No one suffered injuries in the blaze within the state's region of Swansea, but the two-storey house was severely damaged from the flames, which initially came from the property's attic, according to Bnd.com.

Assistant chief Lyn Mueller, of the East Side Fire Protection District, told the website: "It was their first time using it this year, and it had been on for about two hours when they noticed smoke and their smoke detectors went off."

This news comes after WisTV.com reported that a chimney fire in the North Carolina area displaced three students.

The home in the city of Wilmington was considerably damaged in the incident, as local fire crews were forced to entirely remove its chimney, which left a sizeable hole in the side of the property.
