A chimney in West Yorkshire is no longer a danger to pedestrians after repair work was completed on its flue accessories.
Last December, a survey indicated that masonry situated at the peak of the 135-foot chimney at Corporation Mill, Calderdale, could collapse at any time, according to the Halifax Courier.
However, the chimney has been minimised to a "30-foot stump", according to Calderdale Council environment representative Barry Collins. The cost of the repair work has also been estimated to be close to £87,000.
Earlier this month, the Boston Herald reported that a chimney in the US state of Maine had been demolished.
The chimney was situated in the state's Old Town region and explosives were used to destroy the 140-year-old structure.
Maine University may also be set to benefit from the demolition, as the website reported that the chimney's previous owners could be offering a portion of the land to the institution.
