A fire fighter from Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) has urged residents to take care of heating appliances such as flue liners for gas fires.
This appeal comes after HFRS were commended after spending over three hours tackling a fire at Standon Green End Farm in High Cross last month, according to the Hertfordshire Mercury.
HFRS commander Paul Toynton told the news provider: "If you've got an old house in which the bricks are not sound, it can catch hold of the roof space and then potentially it's goodbye house."
Meanwhile, GetHampshire.co.uk has reported that a chimney fire in Hampshire forced a road closure on December 13th.
The incident happened at the Waggon and Horses pub in Hartley Wintney High Street at around 12:30BST and fire officials tackled the blaze with a hose reel, a jet and chimney rods.
Neil Scott, the pub's landlord, told the website that the fire was eventually extinguished "safely".
