Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) has advised homeowners to purchase smoke alarms this winter, which will prove essential if homes are affected by faulty flue accessories.
Home fires occur throughout the year, though a fire official from CFRS has explained that the festive season can lead to numerous extra dangers, according to the North-West Evening Mail.
Barrow fire station's deputy location manager Gavin Roberts told the newspaper: "I want everyone to have a happy and safe Christmas and urge people to take fire safety seriously. Get smoke alarms installed."
This news comes after the BBC reported that a chimney fire caused significant damage to a property in Dorset.
The fire occurred at a home in Hyde, near Wareham, and meant that fire fighters had to remove parts of the building's roof to ensure safety.
Roughly 40 fire officials were present at the incident, with Dorset Fire and Rescue Service believing that the blaze began in a log burner.
