A chimney and its associated flue accessories have been suspected as the source of a wildfire in Washington, US.

Officials believe that flames were ignited within a chimney in the White Swan region, which then spread into a wildfire and demolished 18 homes in the state's Yakama Indian Reservation, according to Indian Country News.

Barbara Martin, one of the those who saw their homes destroyed, told the news provider: " There's a lot of memories in that house - family pictures that can’t be replaced. It kind of hurts. It's got a lot of memories."

Meanwhile, C-FAX 1070 has reported that a chimney fire led to a property sustaining severe damage in Canada.

Flames emerged from a home's chimney in the British Columbia province and expanded into a structural fire, but all inhabitants were able to escape the building without suffering any injuries.
