Maltese energy utility specialist Enemalta Corporation has started decommissioning plans for its Marsa and Deimara power stations.

Britain's RVA Group is helping to guide the company through an assessment of the flue accessories at the two plants, as it plans to update its energy generation technology. As part of the operations, a full decommissioning plan must be outlined for the Marsa site.

RVA managing director Richard Vann said: "As with any decommissioning project there are numerous factors to consider, which is why it is important to undertake extensive investigative work before a recommended plant decommissioning plan is prepared."

Mr Vann also emphasised that there can never be a "one size fits all" mentality to the work, as the removal and dismantling involved in the operation needs to be as cost-effective as possible.

RVA's proposals are set to be submitted to the Malta Environment and Planning Authority for consideration.
