Statoil and Gassnova are requesting suppliers to partake in a technology qualification programme that will explore full-scale carbon capture technology at Mongstad.

The project will see experts investigate flue accessories and ensure that carbon capture systems can be operated efficiently at the plant, while complying with all the necessary health, safety and environmental obligations.

Kurt Georgsen, who is head of the full-scale project at Mongstad, said: "It's important to be fully confident that there will be no health or environmentally hazardous emissions in connection with operations at the capture facility.

"It must be safe for all who live in the area and who will be working at the plant."

The project has been divided into three phases. In phase one, a feasibility study will show whether the technology can be utilised at the plant, while phase two will involve a technology qualification programme which checks that emissions will meet specific criteria.

Finally, phase three will see a concept design created for the facility.
