A planned biomass plant in Leith has caught the attention of Friends of the Earth US, which is protesting against the adverse effects of the site's flue accessories.
The campaign group has opposed the Forth Energy development due to the wood that will be used in its construction, which will be imported from the US and could damage ecosystems in the country, reports the Journal.
Kate McMahon, the biofuels campaign co-ordinator for the enviromental group told the website: "The southeastern US contains some of the most biodiversity-rich ecosystems in North America and have experienced massive losses with the conversion of natural forest to industrial pine plantations."
Around 182 million acres remains of southeastern natural forests remain, Ms McMahon also stated.
The Cornish Guardian has reported that the MP for Newquay and St Austell Stephen Gilbert has condemned a planned incinerator in Cornwall, amid worries over noise and waste transportation.
