A Lancashire council has raised worries over a chimney that has flue accessories which could possibly endanger the public.

The chimney in the county's town of Oswaldtwistle is a hazard to the public and should be demolished, according to a Hyndburn Borough Council representative, who was speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph.

Peter Britcliffe told the website: "All the information we have suggests the chimney needs to come down. I would urge Bubble Holdings Ltd to put an application into us as soon as possible."

This news comes after the Chicago Tribune advised residents how they can help to ensure that their homes are not at risk of dangerous substances such as creosote, which can cause chimney fires.

The website claimed that homeowners should avoid burning pine or sappy woods and said that seasoned wood which has been dried for at least 12 months will help to decrease creosote build-up within chimneys.
