Construction work on an indoor waste recycling plant in Langlee is set to commence this September.

The primary complex of sites will span 174 metres by 72 metres, with 12-metre high flue accessories scheduled for installation. New Earth Solutions will build and run the facility, reports the Southern Reporter.

A contract between the Scottish Borders Council (SBC) and New Earth Solutions was signed earlier this week.

Councillor Len Wyse, SBC's executive member for environmental services, told the website: "The contract will help the council meet the legislative recycling and diversion targets of the Scottish government and the European Union."

The deal will also involve the processing of mixed dry recyclables, as well as the composting of green waste.

An article in the Hull Daily Mail has reported that stricter planning have been scheduled for Hull's Avenues conservation area.

The regulations will govern the installation and operation of chimneys, front doors, porches and roofs.
