Patrick Dixon has been selected to be the expert chair of the Office of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) in the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), where he will focus on bringing the technology to flue accessories.
Mr Dixon has agreed to be in the role for a two-year period and will be accountable for providing strategic and expert guidance to ministers, DECC's departmental board and officials focused on the office's objectives.
Energy minister Charles Hendry said that he is delighted to see Mr Dixon recruited to the post.
Mr Hendry explained: "Patrick has significant relevant experience in the energy industry and I am very confident that he will make a major contribution working in partnership with government and industry."
Industry and the wider CCS community, alongside the government, will play a pivotal role in allowing the competitive deployment of the technology, with Mr Dixon set to impart valuable independent expertise.
