A housing association in the West Midlands is set to become a heat supplier in an effort to provide its tenants with stable energy prices in upcoming years.
Whg is planning to replace old and inefficient heating systems in two of its tower blocks with a biomass boiler, operating on wood pellets. It is believed that the move will give tenants more control over their heating costs, reports 24Housing Magazine.
Cliff Horrocks, director of asset management at whg, told 24Housing Magazine: "By doing it with hot water from a communal system it’s quite different from actually supplying gas or electric. So we’re not covered by energy company rules – we don’t become a utility by doing it."
These remarks come after Box Studios confirmed that a new biomass boiler is to be installed in its new digital incubator.
The boiler will use green fuels, helping it to meet most of the building's energy requirements.
