The wintry weather currently affecting areas of the UK has led Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) to warn homeowners about using heating tools such as flue liners for woodburners.

CFRS has urged property owners to be extremely careful when using heating appliances that have not been lit for over a month, with log fires being particularly dangerous, according to ThisIsTheWestCountry.co.uk.

In addition, the service has informed locals that all heating systems should be installed and approved by accredited engineers, while fires should also not be overloaded, to help reduce fire safety concerns.

Earlier this week, a heating specialist told the Ellesmere Port Pioneer that chimneys should be draught-proofed during the winter, as this will help to reduce heat loss in homes.

Another method of combating the cold is to purchase chimney balloons, which offer an effective way of keeping heat inside properties. The expert also advised that gaps in doors and windows should be closed with a sealant in order to keep cold air out of homes.
